Playing 1-2-3 ABC do-re-mi

It is nice to have 3 child seated on the rectangle piano chair playing their melody… separately. The noise melody is nothing impressive but 2 mothers is happy to see them enjoying themselves.

This is my old piano. I have it for almost 28 years. I left it for a good 20 years with my mother. I decided to ship it back with me after I deliver my lil girl. I think some early childhood music lesson will be nice for her. Just an early exposure, not the proper piano lesson.

I am trying hard not to be like many parents who live in my city, who send their child to all kind of early exposure class like gym, ballet, early reader, left brain right brain development, toodler yoga class, art and drame, Shichida brain development, little artist class and etc. The choices is unlimited, and supported by many research, successful testimony, and big price tag. Many parents don’t want to miss out the golden brain development period of their child. They send their child from one class to another. It cost them up to 20k for a year or more, hoping from one class to another. Their child enjoy it and they can see improvement in their child development.

I didn’t let my girl go for any of this. At one end, I worried my little will miss out among her peers later in life. But, another end…I think it is better to do things in moderation and I don’t have a 20k spare to spend for my child early education. So, I decided I can teach her many things on my own. I teach her drawing, coloring, craft, cooking, baking, swimming, dancing, singing and even basic music beat, piano do re mi. She also help me with laundry, sort clothes, pick up her toy, clean the table, mop the floor and rinsing the dishes.

I don’t teach like a pro but I allow her to play and have fun. I don’t need her to do cooking for real but take joy she is able to identify the name of various vegetables and herbs. I don’t need her to play the right note when she sing her twinkle twinkle little star while playing the piano but I smile when she sing in the right tune and playing with the right beat.

She don’t have a mother who take her to various interesting classes but she has a mother who play with her. I hope it is sufficient.

Build me a cluster house

I am busy with a commercial project for a series of professional training material. It was nice yet very ordinary designing on the screen, then review, and colour proofing and printing into a book. I am grateful for all these job which enable me to earn a living from home. I also sincerely appreciate my client who allows me to bring my little girl along for meeting. It is a very tough meeting. Not that my client is tough or the project is tough, but my lil girl request for a toilet break every 15 minutes. So, in a 2 hours meeting, I took her to toilet 6 times. I hardly even have time to write my note but trying to memorize every possible information with my overloaded brain. Then, the last 15min of the meeting, I have my peace because my lil girl finally down napping on my shoulder. I have all the info written down while I wrap up all the items discussed. I am exhausted.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I express my deep appreciation for my lil girl for keeping me company though the meeting and I reward her with a mini cornetto ice-cream when she finally wake up from her nap. I also try to explain to her going to toilet every 15 minutes is not cool although mommy meeting is really boring. I promise I will work on some interesting project with her.

Cardboard Cluster House

It is much more interesting compare with my on the screen job and much more interesting for my lil girl to participate and work on the project it me.

I will do this if I have more time…

Tall Cluster Tower

Or I will do this, if I have very little time…

Simple Castle

I look forward to finish up my project soon and spend some time to build some cluster house with her. Hang on, my lil girl…mommy love you!

Seashell & Raindrop

We hate love the sun in my country, because he really work hard all year round. Sometime he hide behind the cloud but most of the time, he ensure we never need to bring along a sweater wherever we go. We have summer everyday, every year, never change, never fail. So, we go beach all the time. The rain come and go. The warm breeze often follows.

May to September, in this part of the world – prime time for island hoping, beach camping, sand castle building, snorkeling and diving. I am taking my family for a family vacation in Pangkor Island this July. I can’t wait!

Before that, I decided to setup some beach deco in my house to anticipate my summer holiday with family.

Seashell with raindrop on the dry branches. The seashell reminds me of the sea and the island. I love the rain because we need it badly to cool down the hot hot day. 🙂 So, I thought of sharing the steps I took to achieved this simple summer deco.

First, I create some rain drop.

Material: Cotton string (or fishing string or any nice white string you have), scissor and crystal beads.summerdeco_crys02

Crystal beads through the string.

I insert about 10 crystal beads.summerdeco_crys04

Tie a dead knot at the last crystal bead.

And tie a ring circle to use as “hook”

I create total 10 of the “rain drops”. Next is the seashell, using the same cotton string to tie 2 seashell to one string.

You can choose to poke a hole in your seashell or just tie a knot around a perfect seashell according to its shape and edge. summerdeco_shell03 summerdeco_shell04

I finish each set with a ring circle as the “hook”. I make total of 10 seashell strings. I love how the string criss crossing randomly as if it was tangle there naturally. 🙂

I found a dry branches long time ago and I had it spray painted white to create the weathered look by the beach. I have it place inside my metal bucket filled with a silver fish-net scarf and bigger pieces of seashell. Then, I hang all the pieces randomly on the branches.summerdeco_shell05

And, here’s my sun room with the new seashell deco to bring the beach into my home. I have other  seashell deco which I will show you later in the next post.

This simple deco is very subtle and goes along with all the cream and white I have in my sun room. Most importantly, it makes me happy everyday when I sit here reading my book, company my lil girl playing kitchen. I am so looking forward for my summer family vacation. 🙂
