I have a basketful of fresh vegetable from the farmer’s market that in need to be eaten soon. One of the very special ingredient I have is the Japanese pumpkin.
This pumpkin is selling like 20-30 dollar in my local supermarket. But, I got it with 6 dollars from the farmer’s market in Cameron Highland. I was told, this pumpkin origin from Japan. The farmers order the seed and planted it in Cameron Highland and it turn out very well. The flesh of the pumpkin is soft and smoother compare with the ordinary local pumpkin. Beside, you eat with the skin on.
I got a small one. Here’s how this beauty look like, once cut.
I am in love with this pumpkin because I won’t need to spend hours to cut the skin away. It is just a thin soft layer.
I was told that the best way to enjoy the flavour of each vegetable is to have them grilled, finish with a some extra virgin olive oil, a touch of balsamic vinegar and pinch of salt. So, together with the Japanese pumpkin, I also have green capsicum, red capsicum, yellow capsicum, white button mushroom and carrot. Grilling away…
And finally, adding on extra grilled chicken for JP, eating with warm full grain pita bread. I cut the pita bread to half and it open up like a little pocket in the middle. I stuff some grilled vegetable and grilled chicken inside…ooh it taste so good! JP ask if I coat the vegetable with honey. It taste so heavenly! He never imagine vegetable can taste so sweet and juicy. 🙂
Oh, the Japanese pumpkin taste so good even without the additional coating. But, the coating surely brings out extra character from the pumpkin. Loving it!
Bon appetit 🙂
